Toughen up princess
Monday was a really tough day. It was much worse than Sunday. While I had loads to do, (because two jobs) and I was really busy, I was snappy and annoyed with myself and generally unsettled.
Last night I gave myself a big kick up the butt. There are loads of people in lockdown in HK (and all over the world), many in tiny apartments and many with children to try and home school and entertain. Many people in HK are relying on strangers to bring them food, thank goodness for the HK quarantine and group for rallying volunteers to do food deliveries.
I have a lovely apartment, a balcony (thank god), fabulous friends who are reaching out to me and enough money to live comfortably in lockdown. I went to bed feeling grateful for all that I have.
On to the positives of the day. I was up at 6 and into a training session on the Sweat app. The app is great but I’m not sure that the round that I’m doing is pushing me hard enough. Maybe I need a longer warm up on the skipping rope, evil thing that it is! Is anyone else doing BBG on the sweat app? If so, does it get harder?
I had my usual breakfast but rather than just dumping the fruit on top I spend a few minutes getting fancy. I didn’t do a very good job but it tasted great.
Edna Bridges was scheduled to work today. She can’t come in to my apartment (because lockdown) so I wrote a shopping list and put the list and cash in the pocket of my shopping trolley and left it outside the door.
Edna has been with me for a few years and knows me very well. She’s been sad that I was in Singapore for so long and now I’m back and she can’t hug me.
She keeps checking in on me and is worried about me in quarantine. Her message yesterday made me laugh! Everyone should have an Edna Bridges in their life!
It was so funny having Edna outside the apartment door asking questions about shopping. It became a bit painful when she called me 4 times and messaged 5 times while she was at the shops. I think she forgets that I’m working! But she would call to say ‘need wine miss lynne?’, ‘what about chocolate’, ‘what kind of cheese, greeted or whole’ (greeted is not a typo). She shops for me every week when life is normal without asking questions, I think she just wanted to make sure I had everything I need in lockdown. Having a helper is normal for most people in HK (many families have 2 or 3 helpers) but I never forget how fortunate I am to have Edna Bridges in my life.
This morning I got a call from some lady from a govt dept. She called to remind me that I’m in quarantine and I’m not allowed to leave my apartment. I told her I hadn’t received any messages to upload a photo of my geo band since Saturday (worried because quarantine jail) but she didn’t want to chat about that. Lucky she was sweet (because bad mood) as telling me over and over to stay inside wasn’t really helpful.
I saw an article tonight about fancy high tech new wrist bands that some people have to wear. Apparently you now have to wear this if you land from the States or UK. Not sure I want to wear that on my wrist for 14 days!
I’ve decided that music is the best thing to change your mood. I haven’t yet resorted to tic tok (OMG stay tuned if that ever happens), but I did dance around the lounge room to my songs of the day last night. My taste in music is somewhat questionable, but whatever works right?
Mood of the day: started 3/10 and finished 8/10 (thank god!)
Mental health: not so good early but improved by early evening
Steps: 4,163
Need to go outside: medium
Thanks so much for all the messages, comments and suggestions. And thanks for reading.
A big shout out to everyone who is in quarantine or choosing to self isolate. I’d love to hear how you’re going.
Stay safe and don’t forget to wash your hands x
