Six days in lockdown and this is starting to feel normal
The last five days have been a rollercoaster of emotions, but I seemed to settle in to my lockdown routine on day six.
I’ve tried to take the pressure off myself with work. I’m doing 2 full time jobs at the moment so I’m never going to be on top of everything so I shouldn’t try to be. I decided that from today, I will not eat lunch in front of the laptop. I have breaks when I’m in the office so it’s ok to take breaks at home.
While my favourite spot to work is crossed legged on the lounge room floor, I was getting quite sore from the ergonomically incorrect way I was sitting for long periods of time.
I moved my office (term used loosely) to the kitchen island bench to see how that would go. While my stools look good, they’re bloody uncomfortable to sit on for long periods of time, particularly as I was sore from training (because 200 squats a day).
I took the Sally Crawford approach and made this my standing desk. This worked for a while but was also less than ideal.
I decided that I needed an office that wasn’t in my lounge room. I’ve struggled to switch off from work (because 2 jobs) and having my laptop near the sofa didn’t help.
Being in complete lockdown, buying furniture is not an option, so I got creative.
Hello new office! I’ve used a folding outdoor table that was stored on top of a wardrobe (too big for the balcony) and one of the outdoor chairs. To make the chair comfy I added a butt cushion and a back cushion and the small bean filled ottoman is a foot stool.
I now have an office with a view! Or partial view as the weather has closed in today.

I also got creative with my laundry. Most HK homes have the washing machine in the kitchen (taking the space where an oven would normally be). Normally I would put my clothes drying rack in the guest room - but this is now the gym and office, so hello guest bathroom!
The clothes rack is in the large shower and the dehumidifier, set on the clothes drying function, has the clothes dry in no time. This is huge, it’s the first time in 4.5 years that I haven’t been living with a clothes rack in sight. It also makes great use of a room that is rarely used.
There is a chance that lockdown is making me loopy. For those that know me well (or know me at all tbh) you will know that I tend to wear black a LOT. And I don’t do pastels. Well this mornings work out gear made me question who I am.
It’s a bit hard to tell in this pic, but I’m wearing pastel pick patterned training gear. Omg who have I become!
My coffee pod order arrived today. The delivery guy was knocking on the door and I had to explain that I was in lockdown and wasn’t allowed to open the door. He got it, there are so many people in quarantine in HK. He did need a signature so went down to the concierge, got him to sign then came back up and left my precious coffee pods outside my door. I have a sense of calm now that my coffee pods have been restocked (hello espresso martini my old friend).
The weather got really bad tonight. I think this is the only time in my life that I’m happy about bad weather (because lockdown).
